IBSUniversity Bill Unanimously Passed by the National Parliament

IBSUniversity is proud to announce a historic and transformative milestone in its institutional journey. The IBSUniversity Bill was formally presented and successfully enacted as an Act of Parliament, receiving unanimous approval from all Members present during the National Parliamentary session. This achievement marks the culmination of many years of dedication, perseverance, and commitment to strengthening higher education in Papua New Guinea.

During the parliamentary proceedings, Hon. Kinoka Hotune Feo, Minister for Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology and Sports, delivered an inspiring address highlighting the University’s contributions to national development. He emphasized the institution’s pivotal role in shaping Papua New Guinea’s human capital through quality education, training, and research.

The University was further honoured by the endorsement of the Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea, Hon. James Marape, who expressed profound appreciation for the extraordinary contributions of Sir Mick Nades, Founder of IBS. The Prime Minister recognized Sir Mick’s lifelong service to education and his unwavering commitment to empowering young Papua New Guineans.

Additional commendations were shared by

  • Hon. Sasindhara Muthuvel, Governor for West New Britain Province
  • Hon. Peter O’Neill, Member for Ialibu-Pangia and former Prime Minister
  • Hon. Puka Temu, Member for Abau

Their remarks acknowledged the significant impact of IBSUniversity in advancing education and developing a skilled workforce across the nation.

The Governor of the National Capital District, Hon. Powes Parkop, and the Member for North Waghi, Hon. Benjamin Mul, reaffirmed the University’s vital role in supporting skills development, education access, and nation-building.

This extraordinary achievement would not have been possible without the vision and lifelong commitment of Sir Mick Nades, whose dedication to uplifting and educating Papua New Guineans has guided the institution for nearly four decades. IBSUniversity extends its heartfelt gratitude and congratulations to Sir Mick for his extraordinary leadership.

The University also acknowledges the exceptional contributions of

  • Prof. Ramachandran Arunachalam, Vice Chancellor of IBSUniversity, for his steadfast leadership and unwavering support throughout the process
  • Mrs Auvita Rapilla, Chancellor
  • Members of the Council, Trustees, management, staff, students, alumni, and the broader IBS community

Their collective dedication and belief in the mission of IBSUniversity have made this milestone possible.

The passage of the IBSUniversity Act is not only a legal triumph but also a powerful affirmation of the University’s credibility, integrity, and longstanding contribution to higher education in Papua New Guinea. This Act provides a strengthened foundation upon which IBSUniversity will continue to expand its impact, inspire excellence, and serve future generations through world‑class teaching, learning, training, and research.

As the University embarks on this new chapter, it remains committed to its mission of enriching lives through education and contributing meaningfully to national development.
