NEXUS 2026 Connects Secondary Students with Technology, Innovation and the Digital Future

IBSUniversity | 6th August 2026

IBSUniversity continued its commitment to promoting technology, innovation and student engagement with the successful hosting of NEXUS 2026 on Thursday, 6th August 2026.

Proudly organised by students from the School of Information Technology (SOIT), NEXUS 2026 provided an interactive platform for secondary school students to explore technology, develop problem-solving skills, collaborate with their peers and experience the opportunities available within the digital world.

The event brought together students from four schools:

  • Koari Park Secondary School
  • Badiaghwa Technical Secondary School
  • Laloki Secondary School
  • Gerehu Secondary School

NEXUS 2026 was designed to encourage young people to look beyond technology as simply a tool they use every day. Instead, the event encouraged students to see themselves as future creators, innovators, problem-solvers and technology professionals.

Through engaging activities and challenges, participating students had the opportunity to test their knowledge, work collaboratively and apply critical thinking in a technology-focused environment.

The enthusiasm and participation of the students highlighted the growing interest among young people in technology and digital innovation. Their energy, curiosity and willingness to take on challenges created a vibrant atmosphere throughout the event.

A key highlight of NEXUS 2026 was the role played by our SOIT students, who took the lead in organizing and delivering the event.

Their involvement provided an opportunity to put their own technical knowledge, communication, teamwork, leadership and event-management skills into practice while engaging with students from the wider school community.

The initiative reflects the value of student-led activities in creating opportunities for university students to apply classroom learning in practical settings.

As technology continues to influence education, business, communication and almost every aspect of modern life, developing digitally confident young people is essential for Papua New Guinea’s future workforce.

Events such as NEXUS provide a pathway for secondary students to discover their interests, build confidence and begin considering future study and career opportunities in areas such as Information Technology, software development, cybersecurity, data, digital business and other emerging technology fields.

The success of NEXUS 2026 demonstrates the potential of collaboration between higher education institutions and secondary schools in developing technology awareness and encouraging innovation among young people.
