The Inspiring Journey of Zimmah Anton Neinaka: Young CEO Making Waves

IBSUniversity, Mt. Eriama Campus, Port Moresby, 20 September 2024

Stepping into the world of business can be both exhilarating and overwhelming. Starting out often feels like navigating a complex maze. But every entrepreneur begins somewhere, a mindset shared by those who start from humble beginnings. Consider Ms. Zimmah Anton Neinaka, the 21-year-old CEO of ZAD ZEAL LIMITED.

Balancing her role as CEO with her third year of Business and Management Studies at IBSUniversity, Zimmah’s journey to leadership is a blend of hard work, optimism, and natural leadership. Her narrative sets the tone for new standards and fresh perspectives on success in Papua New Guinea’s business landscape.

Background and Inspiration

Zimmah’s journey can be traced to her entrepreneurial heritage from West New Britain and East Sepik Province. Her drive was ignited at 19 years of age, and at just 21, she had already built on those early ambitions with notable achievements.

“Growing up in a family of entrepreneurs, I was already envisioning self-reliance and financial stability to support my siblings and give my father a well-deserved break,” she shares. As the eldest, her family responsibilities have profoundly shaped her goals and work ethic.

Her father’s transition from a traditional job to entrepreneurship 13 years ago remains a significant influence. “His journey taught me that greatness comes from being proactive. Time is precious; make the most of it while you’re young,” Zimmah reflects. Her father’s experiences continue to be a major source of inspiration for her approach to business and leadership.

Journey to Becoming a CEO

On November 19, 2022, Zimmah founded ZAD ZEAL LIMITED, leveraging the insights gained from the PACIFUND “Biz-Launch” program, renowned for prepping entrepreneurs with essential business strategies and financial acumen. “The program provided crucial knowledge on marketing strategies, strategic planning, and financial literacy,” she notes.

Facing the challenges of a male-dominated industry, Zimmah remained undeterred. “My age and academic status initially led others to view me as inexperienced. I used this as motivation to prove myself through hard work and determination,” she says. Her crossing over from a startup to running a successful business underlined her grit and enthusiasm.

A Balancing Act

Managing the dual roles of CEO and student requires thorough planning. “I use a to-do list to prioritize tasks based on my class schedule and work commitments,” Zimmah explains. Making sure each area gets the attention it deserves is a prioritized balancing act, according to Ms. Neinaka, and has become second nature.

Zimmah credits her time at IBSU for significant growth. “Being elected as the first female president of IBSU in 2024 was a milestone that brushed up on my leadership skills. This role has taught me quite a lot about the importance of listening intently, responsibility, and service,” she says. The experience has been central in refining her leadership abilities and resolve in quality service.

Leadership Style and Philosophy

Zimmah’s leadership style is supportive and inclusive. “I prioritize allowing my team to enhance their skills. As president, I’ve championed ‘Unity through Service,’ promoting strong cooperation between the Student Government Association and the student body,” she explains.

Her approach to leadership is entrenched in empathy and active listening, endeavoring to build an environment where everyone has room to grow. “Encourage others to take the lead while providing a space where all can succeed,” she advises.

Achievements and Impact

Under Zimmah’s leadership, ZAD ZEAL LIMITED has achieved impressive landmarks, including a monthly turnover of K30,000 within the first six months and employing over 20 young individuals. She has also launched a Volunteer Program to support youths in Papua New Guinea.

“My goal is to contribute to the economy by creating job opportunities and building a strong brand presence,” she says. Her efforts are directed at positively impacting her community and bringing up tomorrow’s leaders.

Future Goals and Vision

In the not-too-distant future, Zimmah plans to graduate with a high GPA and pursue an MBA and a PhD in Business Administration or Entrepreneurship. Her vision is to expand her business across Papua New Guinea and the Pacific region, bolstering women’s representation in the business world. “I want to be recognized as a leading businesswoman in Papua New Guinea and contribute positively to my country’s economy,” she states.

Advice to Aspiring Leaders

Zimmah encourages future leaders to stay dedicated and genuine, despite any adversities or critiques they may encounter.

“Believe in your goals, honor your personal qualities, and don’t let negativity deter you. Effective leadership centers on values, determination, and mental approach,” she advises. Handling doubt and criticism with a growth mindset and using feedback constructively are strategies she values.

Personal Insights

Outside her professional life, Zimmah enjoys sports, fitness, and music. “I spend time at the gym and listen to music to unwind,” she shares. She also finds comfort in reading her Bible and praying. Staying informed about business trends through articles, podcasts, and TED Talks helps guide her entrepreneurial journey.

Ms. Zimmah Anton Neinaka’s story depicts sprightly leadership, persistence, and firmness in making a positive footprint. Her journey inspires us to pursue our dreams, face challenges head-on, and lead with purpose.
