To Be or Not To Be

We’ve all heard the famous line from Shakespeare’s Hamlet: “To be or not to be.” It’s a big question that makes us think about who we really are and what we want to become.
For students at IBSU, this question may pop up occasionally during their time here at IBSUniversity.
On the contrary, “Who am I?” and “What do I stand for?” are questions everyone will wrestle with eventually. Beyond academic achievements, the real journey lies in understanding what you hold dearly.
Changing as You Grow
When you start your university journey, your journey to learning more about yourself becomes clearer and far outweighs learning about new facts or studying for exams. Maybe you’re studying a subject you never considered before, like business, management, or technology. The more you explore, the more you’ll find out what your deal is – the purpose of your existence.
For example, a student studying business management might discover a passion for entrepreneurship and dream of starting their own company one day. Or a student in accounting might develop an interest in financial strategies and find purpose in helping businesses grow. The academic journey at IBSU brings you to explore what greatly appeals to you and what you want to do with your life. Sometimes, your interests will change as you learn more, and that’s okay. It’s part of finding your true self.
Social Life and Being Yourself
At IBSU, three things are certain: a welcoming atmosphere, friendly smiles, and blended learning. In simple terms, you’re surrounded by students from all over, which means you’ll make new friends, join clubs, and have conversations that challenge your ideas. But sometimes, the people around you might push you to be someone you’re not. You might feel pressured to act a certain way or follow the crowd.
For instance, imagine you join a club just because everyone else is, even though it’s not something you’re genuinely interested in. Over time, you might realize it doesn’t feel right and decide you’d rather be part of a group that shares your passions—like volunteering to help your community. When you’re true to yourself, you’ll feel happier and more confident. IBSUniversity encourages its students to make the right connections, as well as surround themselves with peers who can help them become the best version of themselves.
The Help of Teachers and Mentors
In more ways than one, at IBSUniversity, you’re not alone on this journey. Your professors and mentors are here to help you discover your promenade. They won’t just give you homework and tests—they’ll also help guide you when you feel lost or unsure.
Let’s say you’re struggling with what career you want to pursue. Talking to a mentor who has already been through university can help you see the bigger picture. Maybe they can share their own story, showing you that it’s okay to change your mind or take a different route. With the experienced assistance of these guides, you’ll feel more confident about your choices and where you’re headed.
The Bottom Line
One’s university journey is divided into two subplots: finding yourself and getting through exams. As you explore new subjects, meet new people, and face challenges, you’re also learning about your values, passions, and goals. Sometimes, the answers won’t come right away, but they will come and that’s part of growth and development.
All in all, it’s okay if you don’t have everything figured out yet. Finding yourself is a lifelong journey, and, as cliche as it sounds, everything takes time to unfold and so is finding yourself. Most importantly, you need to stay open to learning, stay true to what you care about, and accept the changes that come your way.
As you think about your own journey at IBSU, ask yourself “What have you learned about yourself so far?” And “How can you continue to grow into the person you want to be?”
