IBSUniversity Sponsors IBSU Crushers with K79,500 for Vice Chancellor’s Cup Set for Lae Unitech

IBSUniversity has proudly extended its full support to the IBSU Crushers, the university’s student-led rugby team with K79,500 for the upcoming Vice Chancellor’s Cup (VC Cup), set to take place at Lae Unitech. This sponsorship is a significant commitment from the university for its continuous support for talent, team spirit, and sportsmanship within the student community.

The sponsorship was announced during the IBSU’s Crushers 30 men squad launching for the VC Cup, held at the university’s Sir Jim McPherson Open Arena on May 14th, 2025. Presented at the event to witness the launching and sponsorship announcement were Mr. Stargorth Amean, Sports Ambassador and Former Hunter’s Fullback, Ms. Rose. Hagua, TVET Coordinator, Moresby South and Women’s Rep, IBSU Crushers coach Bland Abavu, former Hunter’s football player and IBSUniversity Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ramachandran Arunachalam.

The VC Cup, a major sporting event, brings together universities from across the country to compete in rugby league. IBSUniversity’s sponsorship IBSU’s Crushers will help cover various costs associated with the team’s participation, including travel expenses, jerseys, equipment, and other logistical needs.

As the only private university in PNG, IBSUniversity understands the role sports play in developing well-rounded individuals. Through sports, students build leadership, teamwork, discipline, and the ability to handle pressure—skills that carry over into their studies and future careers.

“This sponsorship is part of our ongoing commitment to provide our students with opportunities that extend beyond the classroom,” said Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ramachandran Arunachalam. “The IBSU Crushers represent the spirit of determination and teamwork that we aim to nurture in all our students. We are excited to support them because we believe that it is our responsibility to find potential and talents in our students.”

The VC’s Cup is more than just a competition; it’s a chance for universities to unite, connect, and celebrate a common love for rugby league. Supporting the IBSU Crushers means IBSUniversity is not only backing its students’ athletic potential but also playing a part in strengthening the wider community.

The sponsorship also strengthens the university’s ties with Unitech community, helping to promote collaboration and camaraderie among students from different tertiary institutions.

With K79,500 in backing, the IBSU Crushers are now well-prepared to take on their competitors with confidence. IBSUniversity looks forward to the team’s performance and remains committed to supporting initiatives like this that empower students and drive their growth and success.
