The Morning Staff Reflection at IBSUniversity: Encouraging a Culture of Team Building and Learning
Within the community of IBSUniversity, (IBSU) we believe in creating a culture centered around continuous learning, personal development, and teamwork in all aspect of our work. A key part of this culture is our unique morning staff reflection, which takes place daily at the university’s Genius Bar. Guided by the life and work principles of renowned entrepreneur and investor Ray Dalio, this practice encourages an atmosphere of openness, thoughtful reflection, and mutual support among our team.
Every morning before ticking off the to-do list for the day, the IBSU team from various departments convene at the Genius Bar for a brief and meaningful session. The team starts by reading a selected passage from Ray Dalio’s principles, which was carefully compiled by IBS Founder, Sir Mick Nades. These principles serve as a guiding structure that enhance both our professional and personal lives. Dalio’s philosophy encourages radical transparency, accepting mistakes, and constantly working towards self- improvement, which complements the university’s values in an ideal way.
Each staff members take turns daily to read and share their thoughts and reflections on the reading. They share a point that resonated with them, offering valuable insights that the rest of the team can learn from. This practice of reflection allows us to relate the principles to our daily experiences, turning abstract ideas into actionable takeaways.
The focus is always on learning and growing, both as individuals and as a team. The shared reflections help us align on the university’s vision and mission, bolstering the importance of the eight IBSU values; integrity, respect, innovation, service, collaboration, accountability, responsive and excellence.
In addition to the reflections, every staff member is given an opportunity to share words of encouragement, appreciation, or personal learning. Whether it’s acknowledging a colleague’s recent accomplishment or offering a piece of advice for overcoming a challenge, this part of the reflection encourages a supportive environment. It upholds our sense of community, helping to build trust and team bonds.
The morning reflection is more than just a daily tradition—it is an indispensable part of our university’s culture. It helps us each day to express gratitude, share encouragement and reflect on personal growth that motivates us to drive our success, and it allows us to build stronger relationships with one another, where everyone feels valued and motivated to give their best.
As we continue to learn and live up to the expression “teamwork makes the dream work”, the morning reflection sessions remain as a distinct heritage that facilitate the university’s vision, mission and values. It is where every team member’s voice is heard, and every day is an opportunity to get better.
Come and be a part of our community and experience the power of ongoing learning, continuous improvement, and teamwork that sets IBSUniversity apart.
