IBSUniversity, April 25, 2025 – As part of the ongoing efforts to support student growth and learning, IBSUniversity was pleased to welcome Mr. Rajeev Sharma, Chief Executive Officer of Nasfund, for an engaging and educational guest session on the topic: “Super and How to Grow Your Super.” The event took place in the University Library from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM and was organized under the Student Entrepreneurship Program (STEP), facilitated by Step Coordinator, Ms. Palakurthi Harika from the School of Business and Management, and Dr. Durga Prasad, Head of School, Business and Management.
Mr. Sharma, a prominent figure in PNG’s financial sector, delivered a compelling lecture on superannuation, an often-overlooked aspect of long-term financial planning. Drawing from his leadership experience at Nasfund, he encouraged young Papua New Guineans to take proactive steps toward securing a stable financial future.

He explained how employer and employee contributions work, and why starting early makes a big difference. “Super isn’t only a deduction—it helps build your financial future,” he said.
Students were shown ways to grow their superannuation savings, such as adding extra contributions and using employer-matching options. Mr. Sharma also spoke about how compound interest works overtime and the importance of making thoughtful, long-term financial choices.

Additionally, Mr. Sharma acknowledged ongoing challenges faced in the superannuation landscape, such as low financial literacy and limited engagement among youth. However, he also shared some of Nasfund’s initiatives, like mobile apps and educational campaigns, which are being implemented to close these gaps and make super more accessible.
For aspiring student entrepreneurs, Mr. Sharma offered a piece of expert advice: “Even if you run your own business, planning for retirement is non-negotiable.” He introduced super schemes specifically designed for the self-employed and encouraged students to think ahead.

With events like these, IBSUniversity continues to enrich lives with the tools and knowledge they need early in life to make informed decisions once they complete their studies.
Stay tuned for more empowering sessions through the STEP initiative!
