SAFSA Hosts Informative Session on Career Pathways in Accounting and Finance

On May 7, 2025, the School of Accounting and Finance Student Association (SAFSA) at IBSUniversity hosted an event called, “Exploring Career Pathways in Accounting and Finance.” The purpose of this event was to help students explore career opportunities in accounting and finance.

The session took place at the university’s library and was opened by Dr. Arumugam M, Head of the School of Accounting and Finance (SoAF). He welcomed the guest speaker, Ms. Debbie Oli, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Nasfund, along with her team and students from all four schools of IBSUniversity who participated.

Ms. Debbie Oli gave an engaging speech based on her experience in the financial sector. She offered advice for students interested in careers in accounting and finance. Key points from her presentation included earning professional certifications like CPA and data analytics, gaining experience in the field, continuing to learn throughout their careers, building professional networks, following ethical standards, improving communication skills, developing personal growth, setting career goals, and staying strong in the face of challenges.

In response to a student’s question, Ms. Oli spoke about the growing influence of artificial intelligence (AI) in the finance and accounting sectors. She also drew on her own experiences as a woman in a leadership role and stressed the need for workplaces to adopt more equal, fair, and open environments—values that the university stands behind.

Ms. Oli’s team provided helpful information about the skills and qualifications needed in the finance industry, which helps students prepare for the job market.

Dr. Arumugam. M expressed interest in working closely with Nasfund and talked about the possibility of forging a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Nasfund and IBSUniversity. This could lead to more opportunities for students, such as internships and campus placements with Nasfund, which Ms. Oli also mentioned that from the current batch at least two students from School of Information Technology and one student each from School of Accounting and Finance and School of Business & Management may be placed in Nasfund for internship or work.

This event was proudly brought to IBSUniversity through the collective efforts of Dr. Arumugan M, Head of SoAF, Dr. Rengalwar Srinivasan former Head of School and Senior Lecturer SoAF, Mr. Manikandan Sathyamoorthy SAFSA Coordinator and Lecturer SoAF, Dr. Muthu Prabha Venkitchalam Guidance Counselor, Student Affairs Department, and the SAFSA student president Mr. Gakena Martin and his office bearers for the smooth facilitation of the event. This event is one of the many events that have already occurred that are predicated upon IBSUniversity’s approach to student-centred learning, which upholds the university’s values, mission, and vision.
