We are honored to share the noteworthy story of one of our talented female staff, Ms. Diannah Gabeho, our Digital Learning Officer. Recently, Ms. Gabeho’s design was chosen and announced by the Japanese Embassy-PNG as the official logo celebrating the 50th Diplomatic Relations Anniversary between the Japanese government and Papua New Guinea.
Ms. Gabeho holds a diploma in Information Technology, majoring in Networking, and has three years of experience in the IT field. As the Digital Learning Officer at IBSUniversity, she administers and maintains the Moodle content, enrolling students into Moodle units, and supports students and staff with Moodle administration. She also assists in maintaining and monitoring classroom technologies.
While her professional background is in IT, designing has always been a hobby for Diannah. She taught herself how to design posters and flyers, and it was through a LinkedIn post in November 2024, that she decided to challenge herself and enter the logo design competition hosted by the Japanese Embassy-PNG. The competition became a way to push herself to improve her graphic design skills.

When Diannah began working on the logo design, her goal was to create something simple yet meaningful. Initially, she considered incorporating the flags as they were, but she quickly realized that this approach wouldn’t work. Determined to uniquely illustrate the enduring diplomatic relationship between Papua New Guinea and Japan, she chose to creatively merge the flags, capturing the essence of this lasting connection.
It took her a week to complete the design, with several attempts to perfect every detail, and ultimately, her logo was chosen to be the official logo for the 50th diplomatic relation. When she learned that her design had been selected, she was both excited and surprised. She received the news on December 24th, 2024 and, shortly after, on January 15, 2025, she had the honor of meeting with the Japanese Ambassador to make it official.

The recognition was an epic moment for her, as she saw her work celebrated at such a promin platform. Diannah believes that the simplicity of her design, combined with the concept of merging the two flags to symbolize the bond between Papua New Guinea and Japan, made her logo stand out from the rest. During her meeting with Ambassador Mochizuki, she received positive feedback, with the Ambassador expressing his admiration for how the flags were merged. He particularly appreciated the design’s simplicity and the deep meaning it conveyed.
This achievement will greatly influence her career and creative journey, giving her the confidence she needs in the design field and continuing to improve her skills and potential in visual design. This in mind, she encourages fellow IBSU staff and students to challenge themselves and to step outside their comfort zones. You might be surprised by the potential and abilities you possess.
She plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in IT while fully utilizing her design skills. Additionally, she hopes to obtain certifications in design to elevate her expertise, with the long-term goal of starting a small business centered around her design work.

While at IBSUniversity, she pictures herself using her creativity to contribute in meaningful ways. She hopes to apply her design skills to create engaging content for student Moodle and bring a fresh, creative perspective to the university’s initiatives. Through her work, she aims to make a positive impact and help enrich the university experience for students and staff alike.
This prestigious achievement showcases her exceptional talent and creativity in graphic design, and her story shows us what passion, determination, and a willingness to step outside your comfort zone, can do.
We encourage all staff and students at IBSUniversity to pursue their passions and uncover possibilities to challenge themselves, just as Diannah has.
To Ms. Diannah Gabeho, we’re proud of your achievement!
