IBSUniversity’s School of Business hosts its first-ever management fest, PRAGNA-2K24, aimed at developing the skills and leadership potential of students across Papua New Guinea
Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea – August 9, 2024 – IBSUniversity proudly announces the inaugural PRAGNA-2K24, a groundbreaking Management Fest organized by the School of Business and Management. This event, inspired by the ancient Sanskrit wisdom embodied in the word ‘Pragna,’ signifies the university’s dedication to expanding intellectual growth, encouraging reflective analysis, and promoting mindful development among its students. The festival is at ease with being the first of its kind in Papua New Guinea (PNG), marking a new chapter in the academic and professional journey of students in the region.
Understanding PRAGNA: The Pillars of Wisdom
“Pragna,” a Sanskrit term meaning “wise, prudent, and knowing,” represents the foundation upon which this event is built. In Buddhist teachings, Pragna is categorized into three types of wisdom:
- Wisdom through Reflection – Encouraging deep analytical thinking and introspection.
- Wisdom through Study – Promoting continuous learning and academic excellence.
- Wisdom through Cultivation – Encouraging mindfulness and applying knowledge in real-world scenarios.
The PRAGNA-2K24 fest, guided by these principles, ensures a platform for students to engage in meaningful discussions, ingenious challenges, and concerted activities that reflect the dynamic nature of the current business environment.
A Historic Event for PNG
IBSUniversity has long been a pioneer in organizing student fests, beginning with the School of Information Technology’s MAVERICK-2016, followed by CONVERGENCE-2022, and TECHFEST-2023/24. However, PRAGNA-2K24 stands out as the first management-focused fest in PNG, designed specifically to cultivate the talents of future business leaders. The event highlighted IBSUniversity’s dedication to forward-thinking education and established a legacy of excellence meant to leave a lasting impact across all disciplines.
Empowering Students Through Competition
The primary objective of PRAGNA-2K24 is to encourage inter-school competition and teamwork, offering students a unique opportunity to showcase their management skills, sharpen their problem-solving abilities, and gain practical experience through various competitive activities.
The fest featured several exciting activities, including:
- Biz Quiz – A challenging business quiz that tests participants’ marketing, economics, and business strategy knowledge.
- AD MAD – An advertising competition where creativity meets strategy, as teams develop innovative ads for real-world products.
- Recycle Mania – A sustainability-focused event where teams create products from recyclable materials, promoting eco-friendly innovation.
Participants, including IBSU students and visiting schools such as Port Moresby International, Koiari Park Secondary, Sogeri National High School, and De La Salle Secondary, received certificates of participation. The winners and runners-up of each activity were awarded individual certificates and tokens of appreciation from the IBSUniversity event organizers.
These events were designed to impact students’ academic journeys, providing them with the tools and confidence needed to excel in their professional careers.
Empowering You to Soar!
The theme of PRAGNA-2K24, “Empowering You to Soar!” aligns with the mission and vision of the School of Business and Management and the Business and Entrepreneur Student Association. This theme reflects the institution’s dedication to supporting talent, driving development, and preparing students to make important contributions in their future careers. It abbreviates the crux of IBSUniversity’s School of Business’s obligation to provide students with the knowledge and opportunities necessary to reach their highest potential.
Expected Outcomes and Broader Impact
Participants in the PRAGNA-2K24 not only gained valuable skills but were also introduced to personal growth and professional development. Through competitive events like Biz Quiz, AD MAD, and Recycle Mania, students were exposed to what it means to amplify their creativity, teamwork, and leadership skills. Additionally, the fest provided networking opportunities, with peers, faculty, and industry professionals. It also offered invaluable insights and connections aimed at benefitting their future careers.
As the first management fest hosted by IBSUniversity, the impact on students and the broader community was noteworthy. Students emerged with sharpened skills, increased confidence, and practical experience that is hoped to serve them well in the future. The event also facilitated community engagement and friendly interactions among the broader academic and business communities.
PRAGNA-2K24 was not just an event; it is a movement; the kind that bears the fruits of excellence, innovation, and leadership. As we look forward to the future, this fest has set the stage for IBSUniversity to continue its tradition of pioneering educational experiences to empower students to soar to new heights.
