IBSU’s STEM Training Prepares NSoE Teachers for the Next Wave of Technological Innovation
[Port Moresby, 26th to 30th June 2023] – IBSUniversity’s School of Information Technology (SOIT) proudly conducted an intensive Robotics Training Program for the staff of the National School of Excellence (NSoE), as part of the STEM curriculum. This program combined theoretical knowledge with practical applications, providing participants with essential skills in Robotics, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Advanced Programming—key areas in today’s rapidly evolving technological landscape.
Event Highlights
(a) Comprehensive Robotics Training
The program offered an in-depth exploration of robotic systems, covering everything from design and programming to the integration of AI for automating decision-making. Participants gained hands-on experience building and operating robots, using advanced tools and modern techniques, preparing them to meet real-world challenges in robotics.
(b) AI Integration
A crucial component of the training focused on the symbiotic relationship between robotics and AI, highlighting how these two technologies work together to address complex problems. NSoE staff delved into AI’s capabilities, ranging from basic automation to sophisticated, real-time decision-making systems, providing them with valuable insights into the future of robotics and AI.
(c) Advanced Programming Languages
The program also featured workshops on critical programming languages such as C++, JAVA, and Python. These sessions emphasized the importance of writing efficient, scalable code to power advanced robotics and AI solutions. Participants enhanced their programming proficiency, learning how to develop robust applications for various robotics platforms.
(d) STEM Curriculum Alignment
The training was intentionally designed to fit within the STEM curriculum, confirming that the content met educational standards while encouraging participants to apply their new knowledge in their teaching. The practical skills acquired will actively transform the learning experience in classrooms, promoting creative thinking and critical analysis among students.
(e) Expert Mentorship
The program was led by a team of industry experts and seasoned educators, who provided live demonstrations, interactive labs, and one-on-one guidance. This personalized mentorship allowed participants to gain deeper insights and left them feeling confident in their ability to apply advanced concepts.
Achievements
(a) Skill Development
All participants completed the training, demonstrating a solid understanding of robotics design, AI integration, and advanced programming. They are now prepared to tackle challenges in the fields of robotics and AI, with a strong foundation in both theoretical knowledge and practical application.
(b) Practical Application
At the end of the training, participants were able to design, build, and test their own robot prototypes, using AI algorithms to improve functionality. These hands-on projects will enable them to directly apply what they learned in real-world situations.
(c) Knowledge Transfer
With their new expertise in robotics and AI, the NSoE staff can now bring these skills to their students, encouraging a progressive learning environment that inspires students to explore technology and analyze its real-world uses.
This training showcases IBSUniversity’s efforts to improve STEM education and cultivate technological know-how at NSoE. In essence, the training added another layer of expertise for educators needed to inspire future problem solvers and tech pioneers.
