[Mt. Eriama Campus, 11 Mile, Port Moresby, March 10, 2025] – IBSUniversity (IBSU) proudly welcomed its newest staff members through an induction program on 27 February 2025, led by the People & Culture team, under the leadership of Mr. Gordon Sailas, Head of People & Culture. The event introduced new employees to the university’s mission, values, and how different departments work together. The induction represents the kind of culture practiced by IBSUniversity in offering new team members the knowledge and confidence to settle in and contribute effectively as part of the IBSU team.
A Warm Welcome to IBSU’s New Team Members
The induction program gave new employees a chance to learn about the university’s culture, work environment, and what is expected of them. It helped staff understand their roles while creating a welcoming atmosphere and encouraging teamwork within the university.
Representatives from different departments shared details about their teams, their respective departmental missions, and how they normally contribute to the university’s success. Simply put, this session offered a closer look at how each department operates and how various roles work together to support IBSU’s academic and operational goals. New staff members valued seeing how their efforts fit into the larger picture of the university.

Inspiring Through “Our Journey” The IBS Story
One of the key moments of the induction was a special presentation called “Our Journey,” which told the story of IBS. This session went through the university’s history, from its humble beginnings to becoming one of Papua New Guinea’s top private higher learning institutions. The purpose behind sharing IBS’s story was to inspire everyone, simple because it touched on the values of hard work, determination, and the vision that turned IBSU into what it is today.
Learning about the university’s journey is part of IBSU People and Culture Department’s strategy in helping new staff connect with its mission and long-term goals, showing them how important their role is in continuing the university’s legacy.
Leadership Perspectives and Employee Engagement
During the induction, Mr. Gordon Sailas shared his thoughts on the value of effective onboarding. He said,
“We want every new staff member to feel welcome and understand their role at IBSU. This program helps them connect with our values and mission right from the start. When employees feel involved and share our goals, they are more inclined to contribute to the university’s success.”
The event also included an interactive Q&A session, where new employees could ask questions, share their thoughts, and interact with IBSU’s leadership team. This open discussion helped them clarify expectations and better understand their roles.

Supporting Professional Growth and Learning
IBSUniversity provides a workplace that encourages professional growth and continuous learning. The induction program is one of the many ways IBSU helps its staff gain the skills and support they need to succeed.
Through training, mentorship, and development programs, the university helps employees build their careers while contributing to IBSU’s broader mission of guiding the next generation of leaders.
