IBSUniversity School of Accounting and Finance Launches SAFSA 2025

On March 20, 2025, the School of Accounting and Finance at IBSUniversity held a ceremony to officially launch the School of Accounting and Finance Students Association (SAFSA) for 2025. The event took place at the Luca Pacioli Theatre at IBSUniversity and started at 10:30 AM.

The ceremony was honored by Ms. Rei Vagi, Group Chief Financial Officer of Credit Corporation (PNG) Ltd., who was the main guest. Her presence showed her keen support for developing future finance professionals and encouraging student leadership.

The program began with an opening prayer by Ms. Julia Agi, a Year 2 student from Southern Cross University (SCU), followed by the National Anthem sung by Ms. Martha Sarea, a Year 1 student from IBSUniversity.

Dr. Vasan, Head of the School of Accounting and Finance, welcomed everyone and introduced the newly elected SAFSA office bearers. He spoke about their efforts to engage students and support academic achievement.

After the introductions, the new office bearers took an oath to support SAFSA’s values and mission. This solemn moment showed their promise to increase student involvement in both academic studies and activities outside the classroom in accounting and finance.

Next, Ms. Victoria Kiroha, a Year 2 student from IBSU, introduced the chief guest, Ms. Rei Vagi. Ms. Vagi then delivered an inspiring address on the role of accounting and finance professionals in driving economic growth, maintaining financial clarity, and reducing mismanagement in Papua New Guinea. She encouraged students to use emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, data analytics, and automation to improve financial operations and decision-making. Ms. Vagi also stressed the need for honesty in every ethical financial practice and ongoing professional development as the demand for skilled finance workers grows.

The event concluded with final comments from Dr. Thirumal Raman, Senior Lecturer, who praised the organizers and congratulated the new SAFSA leadership team. Afterwards, Mr. Manikandan, SAFSA Advisor, thanked the faculty, students, and guests for their support.

The successful launch of SAFSA signifies the start of an exciting new chapter for students at the School of Accounting and Finance, promoting leadership, teamwork, and professional growth in line with the vision and mission of IBSUniversity.
