[Port Moresby, 12th August 2024]- The Madang Students Association of IBSUniversity had the privileged of receiving the Sir Peter Barter Scholarship Cheque of K85085, which was presented by the Madang Governor, Hon. Ramsey Pariwa, yesterday at the COE Hall within the IBSUniversity campus.
Eleven students, in total, were awarded the scholarship this year, of which 50% of their tuition fees will be met by the Madang Provincial Government. These students had applied last year during the initial trial phase and were selected based on eligibility criteria for participation in the scholarship program.
On hand to witness the cheque presentation were Mr. Jobin Madappallimattam Scaria, IBSUniversity Pro Vice Chancellor; Dr. Emmanuel Aquino, Dean of Students IBSUniversity; Hon. Ramsey Pariwa, Madang Provincial Governor; Mr. Martin Kombri, Hon. Ramsey Pariwa’s Lawyer, Madang Provincial Administration; Mr. Kurere Matanzana, Madang Tertiary Students President; Madang students from IBSUniversity; and media personnel from IBSUniversity and Madang Provincial Administration.
Dean of Students Dr. Emmanuel Aquino expressed his gratitude to the Madang Provincial Government and the honorable governor of Madang stating, “On behalf of IBSUniversity, Founder Sir Mick Nades and Vice Chancellor Prof. Ramachandran Arunachalam, I extend our sincere thanks to the Madang Provincial Government for this initiative.”
Dr. Aquino added, “I believe our country needs more programs like this for its development. We are committed to preparing our students to meet the needs of the corporate world and the country’s broader development goals, which is exactly what IBSUniversity stands for. We aim to be both innovative and proactive, addressing the needs of our people and nation.”
In his official remarks, Madang Governor Hon. Ramsey Pariwa stated, “This is the first time Madang Provincial government has implemented this initiative. Last year was a trial-and-error phase, and our biggest challenge was securing funding. This initiative is designed to develop Madang’s human resources and to empower students through educational opportunities. This educational opportunity will help them to excel in their chosen fields of study, in IBSUniversity especially in the fields of Accounting, Business and Management, Economics and Development Studies, and Information Technology.”
Hon. Ramsey Pariwa added, “I encourage Madang students to apply for this scholarship next year and we are also looking forward to creating awareness programs during the holidays back in Madang, especially for primary and secondary schools. So, for those who will be participating in the scholarship, this is how we are going to give back to Madang and also you can do awareness on what you are studying at IBSUniversity to inspire others to come and pursue their studies here as well.”
This scholarship will continue to support Madang Tertiary students throughout Papua New Guinea in the next five years.
