[Port Moresby, 10 September 2025]– The spirit of unity and pride filled the air as IBSUniversity hosted a vibrant Cultural Show at the university’s Sports Complex to celebrate Papua New Guinea’s 50th Independence Anniversary. With the theme of celebrating culture and identity, the event brought together staff, students, and guests for a day filled with color, rhythm, and tradition.

The celebrations began with the flag raising, national anthem, pledge, and opening prayer, setting a patriotic tone for the day. Alphonse J. Tepra, SGA President, welcomed the gathering, followed by the official openingby Vice Chancellor Professor Ramachandran Arunachalam.
The keynote address was delivered by Mr. Rio Fiocco, a council member of IBSUniversity, who spoke about the importance of cultural identity and unity as PNG moves into its next fifty years.

From there, the arena came alive with the sounds of drums, bamboo flutes, and voices as traditional singsing and dances took center stage. Each province was represented with its unique songs, attire, and rhythm—showcasing the rich diversity of Papua New Guinea’s cultural heritage. Performances from each provincial groups represented the beauty of unity in diversity in Papua New Guinea.
Adding a special flavor to the day, Mikes Toto delivered a live performance during the lunch break, keeping the celebration alive.

The IBSU Cultural Show encourage and appreciate the national pride and cultural heritage among its students during to commemorate Papua New Guinea’s Golden Jubilee.
