[PORT MORESBY, February 12, 2025] – Day one of IBSUniversity’s Orientation Week (February 12-14, 2025) was a blast! New students dove headfirst into campus life, meeting faculty, staff, and their fellow classmates. It was all about making connections and getting ready for the year ahead.
The morning kicked off with a big welcome and registration, led by Ms. Joyce Jerry (our Student Affairs Coordinator) and a fantastic team of IBSU staff and student volunteers. You could feel the excitement in the air as everyone started to find their place in the IBSU family.

Professor Ramachandran Arunachalam, our Vice Chancellor, gave a brilliant opening speech, setting the stage for the week and the whole academic year. He talked about student behavior, what we expect from them (students), and how we can all make IBSU a great place to learn.
Then, the students met the people who’ll be their guides: the Heads of Departments and their teams. It was a chance to get to know the folks who’ll be helping them on their academic journey.

And then? Fun! Ice breaker games (with prizes!) got everyone laughing and chatting. A great way to make new friends, yes?

After a quick break, it was time for the info sessions. Ms. Winnie M. Wenzel from the Registrar’s Office and SSD and her staff gave a super helpful overview of student life. They covered everything from what the Student Services Division (SSD) does, to important dates, exams, and even what DHERST is all about. Plus, they touched on IBSU’s mission, vision, values, rules, safety, health, dress code – the works!

Mr. Billy Minata from Finance talked about the nitty-gritty of payments, withdrawals, and refunds. You know, all the important stuff to keep the financial side of things running smoothly.
Mr. Vishal Selvavinayagam from Logistics gave the lowdown on campus safety, rules (including where not to go!), transport, and housing – basically, how to navigate campus like a pro.
The Library & Information team (Ms. Penelope Aimari, Mr. Lennash Yangmari, and Ms. Christina Emih) showed everyone what the library has to offer. Books, resources, quiet study spots – the perfect place to hit the books (or scroll through databases!).
Lunch was a chance to relax, grab some food (on us!), and chat with new friends.

In the afternoon, Ms. Joyce Jerry and the Student Affairs team were back to talk about what the Dean of School expects, what the student life coordinator does, and all the opportunities available: alumni connections, training, programs, and even counseling. They also introduced the Student Government Association and talked about time management, clubs, and how to stay in the loop.
Finally, Ms. Dolly Konodwa and Dr. Priya Muthuprabha wrapped things up with a session on health and wellbeing. They stressed how important it is to look after yourself, both mentally and physically, and shared info on counseling and health services right here on campus.

Day 1 was a success! New students got a fantastic start, with all the info and resources they need to make the most of their time at IBSUniversity. Stay tuned for Day 2 updates from Orientation Week coming up tomorrow
