Eriama Campus, 11 Mile, Sogeri Road] – The Business Entrepreneurs Association recently held a successful Oath-Taking Ceremony for its 2025 office – bearers at the university’s Socrates Theatre. Attending the ceremony as the guest speaker was Mr. John Pora, chairman of SME Corporation and Director of Stakeholders Engagement, Youth Resource Week PNG, 2025.

On March 14th, 2025, Dr. Durga Prasad, Head of the School of Business and Management, led the event and delivered the opening remarks. He discussed the key role of student leadership and explained how it contributes to a more progressive academic and professional environment.

The highlight of the ceremony was the oath-taking of the 2025 BESA office bearers, where five students pledged to lead the association this year. These new student leaders promised to serve the association and their peers, seeking to strengthen student engagement, support professional growth, and create a positive difference in the community. These five students are:

- Mr. Stawney Magutu (Third year Business & Management) – Chief Executive Officer
- Ms. Nikitah Tevelone (Third year Business & Management) – Chief Operating Officer
- Ms. Welmience Itaar (Third Year Business & Management) – Chief Financial Officer
- Mr. Ismael Waip (First year Business & Management)– Chief Public Officer
- Ms. Shatelle Bosike (First Year Business & Management) – Chief Event Officer
The main address was delivered by Mr. John Pora, the event’s chief guest, who spoke on the theme “The Leadership Journey: From Aspiration to Impact.” He encouraged students to reflect on their individual paths and ambitions, reminding them that the future of the nation lies in the hands of the young. Mr. Pora urged students to take on leadership roles, as these are essential for influencing the future and directly falls in line with Papua New Guinea’s Vision 2050. He also pointed out the necessity for entrepreneurship, financial literacy, leadership, and self-reliance as the country approaches its 50th anniversary of independence.

Following the keynote address, Ms. Abinaya Nagamuthu, a senior lecturer and BESA coordinator, shared the association goals and mission. She outlined BESA’s vision to promote academic excellence, leadership, and professional growth among students.

The ceremony concluded with a speech by Ms. Nikitah Tevelone, the newly appointed BESA COO. She expressed her gratitude to the faculty, students, and guests for their continued support and encouragement.
