IBSUniversity is proud to announce the appointment of Mrs Auvita Rapilla as its new Chancellor. With 20 years of executive management experience, Rapilla brings a wealth of governance and executive leadership to her new role.
She has been a member of the IBSUniversity Council since 2019 and assumed the role of Pro-Chancellor in 2023, providing valuable input into its corporate and academic governance.
Elected to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 2016, she currently holds positions on five prominent IOC Commissions, including the Ethics Commission (chaired by former UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon); Sustainability & Legacy Commission; Technology and Technical Innovation Commission; IOC Coordination Commission for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games; and leads the IOC Olympism365 Commission, which advances the role of sport in supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Rapilla was previously a member of the IOC Coordination Commission for Paris 2024 and the Public Affairs and Social Development through Sport Commission.
Her global influence extends to board positions with the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC); Oceania National Olympic Committees (ONOC); and the International Olympic Truce Centre.
Nationally, she is a current board member of the PNG Olympic Committee where she previously led the organisation as Secretary General from 2011 to 2023. She also served on the board of the 2015 Pacific Games Authority from 2012 to 2016.
She is a professional member of the PNG Institute of Directors where in 2016 she was awarded Female Director of the Year.
Along with a Degree in Public Administration from UPNG and a Master’s in Sport Organisation Management from University Claude Bernard in Lyon, France, her deep understanding of management, stakeholder engagement, and ethical governance will help strengthen the university’s vision.

In announcing her appointment, Sir Mick Nades, Founder of the IBS Group and Trustee of the Nadesalingam Foundation for Education, stated: “We are honoured to have Mrs. Rapilla step into this significant role. Her extensive leadership experience and strong international profile will bring new vitality and perspective to the university. She has previously supported IBSUniversity in her capacities as Acting Chancellor and Pro Chancellor, and her return to this leadership role reinforces the University’s position as it continues to grow and develop.”
Rapilla in response said “I am deeply honoured to be appointed as Chancellor of IBSUniversity. Education has the power to influence lives, and I am dedicated to supporting the University’s contribution to nation building and it’s mission of empowering future leaders through knowledge and innovation. I look forward to working closely with the Council, management, staff, and students to build on the university’s strong foundation and help steer it towards even greater heights.”
IBSUniversity Council Members Prof. Ramachandran Arunachalam, Mr. Jobin Scaria, and Ms. Winnie Michaelyn Wenzel were present at the event.
