A Brief History of IBSUniversity
Established in 1987, the Institute of Business Studies (IBS) began as a provider of revision classes for the Papua New Guinea Institute of Accountants (now CPA PNG), evolving into a prestigious tertiary education institution. By 1994, IBS expanded its offerings to include certificate courses in Accounting and Business, catering to grade 10 school leavers.
In 1999, IBS forged a groundbreaking partnership with Southern Cross University Australia, offering internationally recognized Australian degree programs in Accounting, IT, Marketing, and Human Resource Development. This collaboration positioned IBS as a leader in tertiary education in Papua New Guinea. In 2003, IBS further solidified its reputation by introducing the first MBA program in the country, in partnership with Deakin University, Australia.
The Evolution into IBSUniversity
Recognized as a university in 2016 by the National Executive Council (NEC), IBSUniversity officially launched its own degree programs in 2017. Today, IBSUniversity offers a diverse range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs, including Accounting and Finance, Economics and Development, Business and Management, and Information and Technology, all delivered at the IBS Mt. Eriama campus.
