Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea – September 13, 2024 – IBSUniversity proudly announces its Mini Cultural Show on September 13th, 2024, from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the IBSU Field, 11-mile campus. This year’s event, themed “Preserving Knowledge of Our Cultures Through Time,” will highlight the importance of cultural preservation and provincial tourism through engaging activities and educational showcases.
Event Highlights:
1. Flag Parade
The event will commence with a Flag Parade featuring two representatives from each province. The parade will start from the Arena and proceed along the footpath to the campus road, culminating at the field area.
2. Educational Showcase of Cultural and Provincial Significance
Visitors can explore various stalls exhibiting cultural artifacts, provincial flags, and significant resources or crops from each province. Educational booths will provide insights into local tourist destinations, flora and fauna, traditional foods, and cultural landmarks. Traditional food cooking demonstrations will also be featured. Students will be present at the stalls to engage with attendees and present their province’s cultural narratives.
3. Item Presentations
The show will include a variety of performances, ranging from traditional to contemporary, showcasing singing, dancing, and skits that reflect our nation’s rich cultural diversity.
4. Presentation of Awards
Awards will be presented to recognize exceptional contributions throughout the year, including:
- Most Outstanding Provincial Association of the Year
- Outstanding Provincial Leadership Awards
- Certificates of Recognition for Provincial Community Service Engagements
- Award for Service on Campus
Additional Information:
This year’s Cultural Day will be an internal affair rather than a ticketed event. The Student Government Association has decided to reserve the larger celebration for next year to commemorate PNG’s 50th Anniversary.
The focus for this year’s mini-cultural day will be on preserving cultural heritage and promoting provincial tourism through educational stalls. Provincial groups will also host food stalls to raise funds for next year’s Cultural Day.
Please note that this event is open only to internal stakeholders, and students’ immediate families, and we are in the process of inviting a guest speaker from the Tourism Promotion Authority.
